BIOSCI100

I Got A Passing Grade

So I got a nice, solid, middling C in my BIOSCI100 class. Not amazing but definitely good enough. That’s the good news.

The bad news is I found out I need at least 4 more classes to graduate from the program, two of which I’m already anxious about.

I need a history class, a poli-sci class, and not one, but two math classes. The math classes are freaking me out because quite simply, I’m not good at math and I have to do one level higher than the one I failed multiple times already. Ugh.

I will definitely need tutoring, but I really hope that will give me the extra help I need.

The other thing is the added courses will make it really hard to finish all the core classes before the date I planned to enter the actual MLT program. I made a plan, but honestly it’s going to depend on what classes are available when.

Fuck dude. Shit just got real.

Little Things

I finished my exam, which didn’t take long. I’ll be driving in to turn it in this evening. I know I’m getting a good grade but I’m still curious about my other grades in the class and whether or not I might get a B. A B would make me so happy.

I purchased and ordered yarn for my first sweater. The pattern seems to be more recipe than pattern, so I should be able to easily make a few minor changes. It’s basically a tube (it’s of the shoulder) with a cable across the chest.

I feel so much better in the days since dropping the friend I wrote about before. I’m just so much less stressed and I’m not worrying about making sure they’re okay 24/7. I was basically babysitting them all day while they bitched about how horrible everyone treated them. At first I felt bad because it seems like they actually need a lot of help but I just couldn’t deal with them constantly playing the victim about every little detail in their life. It’s definitely better without them. I can get things done now.

The kittens are growing like crazy and while the dogs are outside during the day the kittens have the run of the house. They’re basically complete little Psychopaths running around, jumping off of things, wrestling, climbing, getting tripped over, and doing all things cat. The littlest one, he’s so cute, has been a little behind the curve in learning to do all things cat. But he’s slowly catching up, wrestling with his brother and sister, and starting to climb and explore. I’ll be sad when they all go outside to become barn cats like we intended from the beginning.

My doggos turned 2 years old on the 25th. It’s hard to believe they’re no longer puppies at all, considering they constantly act like puppies, racing around, playing, fighting, Wrestling, doing all the things that puppies do, pretty much 24/7 unless they’re sleeping or eating. I felt like a really bad dog mom because I totally forgot to wish them happy birthday and I didn’t even give them extra treats that day! The horror of it!

I got a really cool backpack to tote around my stuff for school in the coming semesters. It was a little pricey but honestly good backpacks have always been a little pricey. I remember when I was in high school a JanSport would cost about $45 and that was in the mid-to-late 90s. I especially like the one I got because it has a special pocket that’s padded to hold a laptop, a smaller padded pocket for a tablet, it’s got pockets for water bottles, and as large as enough to hold a couple of binders or books. It’s also my favorite color.

It’s currently 1:30 in the morning and I’m awake because after only getting 5 hours sleep yesterday, I went to bed at 10 p.m. last night only to wake up at 1 a.m. hot, headachy, and having to pee really bad. I went pee, and I’ve cooled down, but I still have the headache. Will likely take some ibuprofen in a little bit. There will definitely be an app in order this afternoon!

Sweet Relief

Tonight I had lecture. The last lecture before the final for my BIOSCI100 class. I didn’t want to go but I did because even after 6 hours of working over my notes for the exam, I still had questions about a few topics and I knew we’d be reviewing for the exam too.

When we got there, he passed around a sheet to put our names and student ID numbers on. Some instructors do this on the first day of class and on days there’s an exam, but this was a normal day so it was a little weird.

We finished the end of chapter 20. He then tells us that because we showed up, we’ve been a good class and he knows it’s been hard for a lot of us, we’re getting the exam to take home and complete at our leisure, due Thursday night.

I reviewed most of the exam questions, realized I already had most of the answers in my notes, and headed home.

It took me about 90 minutes to answer all but 5 multiple choice questions and 5 or 6 short answer questions, with only a few I wasn’t 100% about the answers.

Tomorrow I’ll go thru the class notes again, find those 5 other answers, and doublecheck the rest of them. There’s no reason I can’t get an A on this exam, and maybe a B in the class.

Almost Through It

I’m one week away from being done with my first class towards meeting the perquisites for the MLT program. BIOSCI100, which when I signed up, I thought was going to be stupidly easy, has not been. It’s been challenging and I’ve worked hard for every point I’ve accumulated.

We’ve had two exams in the lecture portion, both of which I failed, but I got an A on the first exam in the lab and I’m pretty confident I got a B on the lab final that we took today.

I’m assuming our lab workbook will score highly, based on what I saw of my group’s work in the portion that I put together.

Last Sunday my mom and I went to the Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar so I could do the extra credit assignment. Unfortunately it was raining and most of the animals were hiding in their shelters. I do think I did a good job of the write-up though and I asked questions if the people working there to get more information.

The birds really seemed to enjoy the rain but the mammals were all tucked away, cozy and warm.

Next Thursday we have the lecture final and if my predictions about the scores on the things we turned in today are right, I need a 65% on it to maintain my C.

This weekend I’ll be going over the topics on the final and working on my notes. He allows a page, front and back, to use on the exam, and I need to make it count.

I would love to get a B in the class but I don’t think it’s realistic to expect that.

Class & Partnerships

For my class this semester, we have to pair up and do a presentation in front of the class. I initially paid up with a girl who sometimes sits near my in lecture, only to find out last week that she dropped the class and didn’t tell me.

My instructor set me up with a new partner, who happens to be in my lab group. Okay, great. Except today he tells me he’s dropping the class too.

I am not going to try to find a new partner. I’ve got the basic information put into slides already; I just need to add photos, diagrams, illustrations to make it look interesting.

But ugh. It sucks having to do all the work myself even if I don’t like working with other people.
