The Fall 2020 semester is nearly over. Thank Bob. I’m so done with these classes. Chem can be hit or miss. Some things I get right away and some things I feel like I’m barely hanging in there. But there’s only a few weeks left and I am pretty sure I will squeak by with a pretty solid B.
Spanish 102 is going a lot better this time than the last time I took it, but some things are still challenging. I’m pretty solid on remembering that regular verbs end with e or i in the past tense so I can kinda fudge my way through talking about the past for the most part. Fake it until you make it, right? I think I’m going to finish with a B in there as well.
I’m taking Winter 2020 off. In Spring 2021, I’m taking Microbiology, and one more Spanish class. I had hoped to squeeze in 4 Spanish classes total but there’s not going to be time for a fourth once I start the core program for my goal of MLT.
I need to send out emails to find out who I need to talk to and when I need to start getting things together to actually apply for the program before this semester ends. I won’t start the program until Fall 2021 but there’s a lot of stuff I have to get in order first and I mean a lot of stuff. Paperwork, grades, a physical, insurance policy, phlebotomy certification that I need to do in Summer 2021. I hope there’s a guide on getting all that done because I already feel overwhelmed thinking about it.
As to this post title, its not even Thanksgiving and I’m starting to see Christmas stuff creep in. Ads for artificial trees, gift guides, decoration crafts… the list goes on. I’ve purchased a gift for my mom, a gift for Perla, and I have a few items for Tracy. I still need to get for Jami and for Rafael. I have no idea what to get for him at all so it probably won’t be awesome.
The kittens are supposedly going to be picked up by the rescue tomorrow sometime, but they haven’t answered my texts asking about what time we’re handing off. And somehow, my car is supposed to get to the shop tomorrow as well, likely to have the water pump replaced. I say I’m not sure how because its losing a ton of water any time its running so its not really drivable until its repaired.
I think I’ve figured out how to get Plex working in the trailer, streaming from my server, but not sure. I need to re-up my subscription on a service before I can test out my idea. I also want to switch to a different VPN service, but I’m not sure if I can do that and still keep things working outside of the network. Research must be done.
This week has been pretty good so far. I know it’s only Tuesday night, but I mean, that’s almost halfway through.
Monday morning I took a much needed shower, and then fixed Rafael’s TV which he claimed for broken for 4 days. It was not broken; he just changed the input source and didn’t know it. A five second fix. Easy peasey!
I was running late by then so I missed lecture and got out of lab early. Then I went to the barber shop and got my hair cut. I feel 100% more human, and way less muppet.
I popped by a few thrift shops but no one had anything I wanted. Then I took myself to lunch at Applebee’s. It’s not fancy but I just wanted to have a nicer, sit-down meal, even if it was by myself. Then I went home.
Last week I had picked up 3 Bolivian Ram cichlids and 6 panda cories. Almost immediately, I lost one of the cories and all three of the rams thanks to fungus that came with the female rams. Ugh. The remaining five cories are doing well though and I’ve finished treating the tank for the fungal outbreak.
I had an unexpected windfall and was able to pay off a good chunk of my debt, so now my account with Dell is paid in full, and all but $200 of my debt with Affirm is also paid off. And I put a large chunk into savings too.
Today I did the dishes, picked up some trash, and cleaned up after the dogs. I also changed the water in all three aquariums. My algae scraper arrived today and it works pretty well on the curved glass of the bowfront tank. I also had more fungal medication delivered so I have it on hand, just in case.
I made up a batch of Repashy for the goldies, which they actually ate this time. I have a new sponge filter and air pump on the way, and I made an offer on a 40 gallon tank and stand that I’ll be picking up at the end of the month. I have no idea where I’m going to put it.
I also bought a fiddle leaf fig and a philodendron brasil. Because plants!
Right now I’m ripping DVDs to digital and watching some TV before I go to bed. Tomorrow I have lecture, and then I can head home and do whatever. Maybe I’ll remember to make a note of which colors of embroidery floss I still need.
Somewhere in the last few days, Plex came across my radar. It took me about a day to have mom’s desktop computer set up as the media server, the hard drives of media plugged into it, and both Raspberry Pi’s loaded up with the RasPlex OS.
And it’s pretty fucking cool. We have one centralized library, but I can set up sharing libraries within that. Those libraries can be shared or not to various users who are signed into the server. In this case it’s just me and my mom, but it’s handy because I can share all the TV shows with her, except for animated ones or anime, and I can share all the movies, her own library of music (I ripped all her CDs to digital), but not my music, which I know she’d have no interest in.
So basically, it’s pretty fucking cool. And because both Kodi and Plex have their roots in XBMC, they’re remarkably similar in functionality.
Tomorrow I have a couple hours of Spanish homework to finish and then I have a chapter in my Anatomy lab manual to do. Neither of those things should be too hard, they just take time.
If I’m not too brain fried once those are done, I will probably do my Women in US History final. I’m so glad that’s all I have left of that class. The instructor hasn’t been my favorite, and while she did give me a perfect score on my last submission, it was unexpected because I really thought that submission was pretty crap. It’s literally the only perfect score she’s given me.
I’ve been working on corralling stuff for the upcoming Sanchezmas swap and it’s so much fun! I have done definite NSFW stuff that’s going into my box assuming of course my Sanchezee is okay with that. I’m passing on some cool legacy stuff too this year.
Tonight I’m binging on Catfish and even though I’ve seen most of the episodes, I’m just like dude, do these people every learn? Do they not know how to use Google? Are this many people living under rocks?
The other day, I opened up Kodi and after about ten seconds, got a black screen. Finally, but not until I had reinstalled it, and wiped out my libraries, i found out it was a known error being triggered by scraping from TVDB. The solution was pretty simple. Turn off that scraper. I finally got everything scanned and then I started looking around at other add-ons.
You guys, I found an optional scraper that will index porn! And I learned how to create a custom collection, so now I have a single entry (Adult Entertainment) that all my dirty movies are under! So tidy! It’s not a lot of porn…. I realize I made it sound like I have tons and I really don’t… Lol.
I also found a way to add a custom shortcut to my theme (I’m living Pellucid so much) that goes straight to my exercise videos! Woohoo!
So I finally, weeks after everyone else, watched the Game of Thrones final season, and it was incredibly disappointing. With the except of a few small details, it was entirely predictable and just flat.
Anyone who says they didn’t see Dany losing her mind wasn’t paying attention since the dragons hatched and she stepped out of the fire. She was having delusions of granduer from the point where Drogo made her Khaleesi and the dragons made her really believe she was invincible. Everywhere she went after that, she rained destruction down.
The 5th episode did not need 30 minutes of the dragon torching the city and her toying with Circe. Circe knew she was going to die and she knew who was going to do it.
The scene with The Hound and The Mountain was good.
Arya killing the Night King was good, but we all knew it would be her because she’s the scariest character in the show.
Ghost didn’t get a single “good boy!” and he is a very good boy!
John telling Dany what she wanted to hear and killing her was predictable.
The dragon melting down the iron throne was a given because it was symbolic of all the strife and had to be destroyed to behind with new, better intentions.
Bran being made king was slightly surprising because I forgot he was still alive.
Sansa got exactly what she wanted- to go home and be queen.
I might watch the show again in the future, but I’ll skip season 8.
