Tomorrow I have a couple hours of Spanish homework to finish and then I have a chapter in my Anatomy lab manual to do. Neither of those things should be too hard, they just take time.
If I’m not too brain fried once those are done, I will probably do my Women in US History final. I’m so glad that’s all I have left of that class. The instructor hasn’t been my favorite, and while she did give me a perfect score on my last submission, it was unexpected because I really thought that submission was pretty crap. It’s literally the only perfect score she’s given me.
I’ve been working on corralling stuff for the upcoming Sanchezmas swap and it’s so much fun! I have done definite NSFW stuff that’s going into my box assuming of course my Sanchezee is okay with that. I’m passing on some cool legacy stuff too this year.
Tonight I’m binging on Catfish and even though I’ve seen most of the episodes, I’m just like dude, do these people every learn? Do they not know how to use Google? Are this many people living under rocks?
I had plans today to actually get stuff done, including a few errands for my mom. But I also had plans to meet someone from Ravelry for lunch.
I should have known today was going to be rough when none of my alarms went off.
But I headed over to Rosamond to meet my new friend and we actually had a really nice meal and great conversation. The diner was super conservative but the food was great. And I finally got to try sweet potato fries! Omg so good!
After about 2 hours, we went out separate ways so I could get the rest of my stuff done. I headed over to AVC to get my Spanish text and things immediately started going wonky.
I was parked in 5 minute parking and the bookstore told me they couldn’t take a DoR check without both my state ID and a valid student ID. I didn’t have a student ID. I also didn’t have a dollar for parking so I had to move my car to visitor parking and walk way too far in the 105° heat to get an ID made.
Walked back to the bookstore and now they can’t take the check because my address on the check doesn’t match the address on my DL. Finally they decide to accept it. I get my book and leave.
My next stop is Lowe’s for planters and potting soil for my roses. I find what I need right away and go to check out…. And my card is declined. I check my balance. I have way more money in there than my attempted purchase. I try the card as debit and credit and finally step out of line to call the bank.
The bank tells me it was declined for a wrong PIN… And that my PIN was never set on the card. Except it was and I’m nearly positive I used it successfully with that PIN at least once. We reset the PIN. I’m able to make my purchase.
Next stop is WinCo. I grab the items my mom needed plus a few other things. Checkout with no issues. Okay. Maybe my day is turning back around.
Gas station. I go in and put $30 on the pump. Pick up the handle, and gasoline from the last person who pumped pours all set my feet. I may have yelled “Motherfucker!” and people may have stared at me. Filled my tank. Went to McDonald’s for an iced coffee and went home.
I was able to repot my rose bushes and water them, but I forgot to drill some drainage holes in the pots so I’ll have to do that tomorrow. They’re looking really good though. Lots of new green leaves and some blooms!
Tomorrow I need to drive to CoC to pick up my other textbooks. Hopefully it goes a lot smoother than today did.
Mi nombre es Deb y yo soy estudiante a Colegio de los Cañones. Yo estudio ser un tenico de laboratorio medico. Yo soy muy emocianada!
(My name is Deb and I am a student at College of the Canyons. I am studying to be a medical laboratory technician. I am very excited!)
Yo tengo dos perros y cuatro gatos. Su nombres son Yuba, Tejon, Mildred, Tot, Tuxi, y Purl. Los amo muy mucho!

I was reviewing financial aid on AVC’s website and it said I had an award of $644 per semester for 4 years. I was super excited and was planning to use part of it to take some Spanish classes.
But after looking into it more, there’s a host of reasons I won’t be receiving it that I can’t do anything about unless I lie my ass off about my intentions for my education.
It’s so fucking frustrating that education is so damned expensive in the United States. We can all benefit so much from it but most of us can’t get it.
Then I discovered that AVC offers payment plans for class fees… But they require a $25 fee plus interest, which brings my $250 class up to about $300 not counting books. That’s not an option either.
I checked with the adult school and they offer ESL but not Spanish courses.
The last thing I can think of is to look for private lessons, and see what’s affordable relative to a semi-regular meet-up…
And can I add onto this to make my financial situation a little uglier? My laptop died and I needed to replace it. I didn’t order what I really wanted, but I ordered what would do what I need it to at a minimum of expense.
The good thing about a new laptop, is I’ll hopefully have a good little machine that I can design all sorts of great new patterns on, and maybe I’ll go back to doing some minor graphic design.
I’ve noticed when I add a new item to my etsy shop, I usually get a few small sales over the next week. Maybe adding a new item once a week is the way to go?
Many years ago, I took first semester German at my local junior college. I did really well, and I took to it like a duck to water. Well, like most ducks to water. Our black duck is afraid of water.
Anyway, I recently downloaded the Duolingo app and started doing the work for German and Spanish. Our next door neighbor, the wife, she doesn’t speak English and I don’t speak Spanish and I would like to talk to her. 🙂
I also bought courses in both languages in Udemy and while I’ve only watched the first class video in the first German class (the alphabet) I think it’s going to be helpful. The teacher only speaks German in the lessons, but uses illustrations and things to help you understand. That’s a lot like my classroom instruction was.
I also joined a chat for German language learners (a club on the Duolingo app) and had fun king to another learner!
I feel like a child trying to communicate but it’ll get better!
