• A Busy Day For Me

Today was a long day, but a good day. I started off going to my consult with the surgeon about my ear. He had a look at it, and exposed being worried about what I would feel about my ear after the Lumpy Brothers are removed. There’s a good chance my ear will look nothing like it did before, but right now, I’ve got two big ass growths on my ear (that are not keloids) that itch and cause my pain 24/7. Fuck what my ear looks like afterwards. Take those fuckers off!

After I left the surgeon’s office, i grabbed myself some lunch and drive to the senior center where i dropped off 7 boxes of faux flowers with a promise of more to come in the near future.

Then I cruised over to Psycho City and waited for Bob to show up. We got started a little early and got through there outlines and details before I called it quits. Basically, we stopped just short of adding colors.

This tattoo is a little different for me because it’s my first cover-up piece. The tattoo it’s covering is 20 years old, looks as terrible as it did on day one, and I’ve pretty much hated it since day one.

What we’re covering is an ugly, naked fairy on a smoking mushroom. We’re turning it into a pair of hammerhead sharks circling a coral island, with kelp in the background. I’m due to go back on the July 3rd and hopefully we can knock most of it out then.

Tomorrow though, i have so much homework to get done!

  • Huh. This site still exists.

It’s been like 4 months i think since I’ve even looked to see if this site was functioning properly… And apparently it is. Neat.

The Spring semester is nearly over, and I’m expecting good grades. I’m taking Microbiology and Conversational Spanish, both of which have been fun and not terribly difficult. My biggest issue is just forgetting to do the occasional assignment in Microbiology.

Over Summer, I’m taking Fundamentals of Public Speaking, and also Medical Terminology for Spanish. I’m honestly scared to death about the public speaking class, but I’m planning to transfer to Pasadena City College for Fall to apply to the Dental Hygienist program next Spring, and it’s a requirement. Bleh.

One of my last posts i talked about Millie. 3 weeks after she was diagnosed with lung cancer, we had to say good-bye. She went from my plump girl to so, so thin so quickly. I wasn’t ready to say good-bye but she was failing and she wasn’t eating the last few days.

A few weeks ago, I acquired a new litter of foster kittens. There 4 of them- 3 tuxedos and a solid black, 2 boys and 2 girls. There were about 5 weeks old when they lost their mama, so they were already eating solids, and they were so scared off people but now they’re the sweetest babies. I need to deworm and start looking for a rescue to place them with soon before the kittie condo gets too crowded.

Friday i have a consult with a surgeon about Lumpy and Lumpy Jr, the wildly large keloids on my left ear. I’m hoping we can get these things removed sooner rather than later. They itch and they hurt all the time and sometimes the skin peels off and they bleed.

After I finish with the consult, I’m going by Psycho City to see Bob and what he’s dream up for me. In theory, I’m getting inked that day and I’m excited!

  • Number 12

Number 12 happened today. Danny at Electric Soul Tattoo created a fabulous design for me with just a little guidance. I initially sent him 4 or 5 inspirational photos all in the American traditional or neo-trad style, gave him a body location, an approximate amount I would like to spend, and said I like things that are colorful and symmetrical.

I got to my appointment today having no idea what he was putting together, but as soon as I saw his design, I loved it. We briefly discussed colors, i was indecisive but on board, and we got started.

The initial plan was to do the black ink and if I wanted to tap out after that, we could finish another day. But it was barely more than uncomfortable, so two hours later we were done.

The biggest challenge? Breathing slowly and regularly without taking big belly-moving inhales.

Anyway, here’s the moth he did for me back in December, and the new piece right below it. 🙂

  • A Little Bit Closer

My registration date for the Fall 2020 semester was finally posted, and I’ve figured out which sections I’m going to enroll in. I think. I’ll be taking CHEM151 and SPAN102 (again) so hopefully this next semester won’t be too bad. My registration slot opens on the 13th, so I’ve got a little less than two weeks to get it sorted out.

Not much going on in my quiet quarantine life. I’ve been out to get a haircut, which I really needed, and tomorrow I’m getting tattooed. All the masks, all the time I’m out. I hate them but its at least a little protection for those around me.

If I have time, I’ll load up some more stuff to be donated in my car to drop off while I’m out tomorrow. I have a few bags of stuff already ready to go, but there’s some big items as well.

I have been buying snacks for us off Amazon when the prices are right, and today I got a huge delivery of what may have been too many snacks. We’re either going to be set on snacks for a couple months, or we’re going to need diets in a month. One of the things I got was a 12-pack of those little packs of Fig Newtons. I love them. They’re my all-time favorite cookie. Well, we left them on the counter and at about 10pm tonight I hear the very suspicious sound of a doggo chewing plastic. I go to investigate and first I find sveral mangled and empty Fig Newton packages. Great. Where’s the main package and all the rest?

Yuba was curled up with the rest of his treat eating cushion, proud of himself for hunting down this tasty, sweet treat. The other day his sweet tooth led him to drink a cup of coffee.

Anyway, 7 snack packs of cookies remain, unmolested, for human consumption. We’re all in bed now and I hope we won’t be up all night with upset bellies from eating too many sweet treats.

What else did I get…. Another bar of Yardley soap, which smells incredible, has a thick, lotiony lather, and it also super inexpensive. Tejon thinks the soap smells amazing and I should let him eat it.

I also got a really cool jigsaw puzzle which I hope we can manage to put together without the cats losing any pieces. Its double-sides, which a scene of succulents on both sides. Its going to be fun to put together! (aka hard)

Ziggy is still doing poorly and I reached out to the people I bought him from. I really think its a swim bladder issue at this point but I’m only 5 months into goldfish keeping so what do I know? What I see is his body looks healthy, there’s no visible signs of injury or illness, he still had good appetite and chases his girlfriend around, but he can;t swim any higher than the bottom third and when he stops actively swimming, he just headstands. If there’s something I can do for him, I would like to do it.

Right now though I’m going to take my meds, go pee, and finish this movie so I can be rested for my appointment tomorrow. Goodnight!

  • Friday the 13th Flash

I had errands to run today and thought I would check out some of the special Friday the 13th flash some of the tattoo shops were doing. I went by 3 shops and the first two were not impressive.

I went to Pokerz first, and the second I walked in the door, they thrust paperwork at me without even asking what I was coming in for.

I looked at the flash, see a cute design. Says $40. I ask if they can make it bigger, and if that included color or shading. They told me they are only doing tracing jobs today, no changes will be made, and it’s for a plain black outline only. Sorry dudes. A cheap tattoo is rarely a good tattoo, and I want something I’ll actually like. They weren’t willing to do additional work at the regular rate, and they didn’t suggest making an appointment to come back.

Next I went over to Black Orchid. Tracy raved about them a couple years ago. I didn’t like any of the flash they had up and they completely ignored me. I was there long enough to flip through all the photo books, look at the flash, wall decor, the whole shebang, and no one could even make eye contact. I left.

After that I went over to Electric Soul and things were off to a better start. I was greeted immediately, and they had flash I actually liked. One of the designs was a simple, traditional styled Death’s Head Moth. They let me know I could feel free to look around and if I had any questions, they would be happy to answer them.

I had questions. and then this happened.

    He’s a cute little guy!

Danny did him, and every five minutes one of the guys was asking how I was feeling because apparently this should have been super painful. It stung, but it really wasn’t bad at all. And now I have ideas to build off of this at some future date.

I still have an appointment for the 27th with Bob to do a praying mantis on my other shin, and I think I’m going to ask him to touch up my thigh piece as well. I like Charles’s work but I had such a bad reaction to the ink he uses not once but twice, that I hesitate to go back to him for touchups.

  • New Ink Friday!

I wish this was a regular thing! Haha but no…. Just a I got lucky enough to save up some $$$ to get some work done.

Several months back, I had this guy, from wall flash, tattooed on my thigh.

And after sending over my ideas and some inspiration images to my artist, which included photos of an enamel pin, a watercolor painting, and a piece of polymer clay sculpture, he came up with this.

There will be some other small details added around it before it’s done.

Anyway, I was having pre-tattoo anxiety last night so I was up late, and then woke up super early with pre-tattoo excitement this morning. I pottered around the house, watched some Nurse Jackie, gave Moppie her meds, and ate a good breakfast. Then I hopped in the car to head into town.

Crown and Dagger Tattoo and my bank are on the same block, so I found street parking, walked to the ATM, got cash, and sat on a bench to wait for the shop to open. I was wearing shorts for easy access to my thigh. The bench was metal, and very cold. I did not stay sitting long.

Finally I went in and Charlie got to work getting my stencil ready, and then he applied it. He busted out a sharpie to make a few minor edits directly on my thigh. Then we got started.

About 2 hours after I had arrived, I had this.

I’ll be going back in the next couple months for one final session, but I love how he got was I was imagining just right!

  • Busy Busy Tuesday

I had a really busy day Tuesday. The pups woke me up at 6am,so I got a whole 4 hours of sleep. Not a great start, but I saw my check came in, so I paid mom rent, and headed into town at 830 to get to the bank when it opened. I withdrew most of the remaining money, deposited about 2/3rds into my other account, and picked up my prescriptions. Amazingly they were actually ready so there was no wait.

From there I dropped off a couple bags of donations at Goodwill.

I paid all my bills, except the phone bills which I had cash for, and drove over to Verizon to find out they don’t open until 11am. Decided to drive over to the hospital and see about donating blood because that usually takes a while. I filled out the paperwork and the lady stuck me, and ten minutes later I was drinking my juice.

I grabbed a chicken sandwich at McDonald’s after that and drank lots of water. Then I went over to Verizon and paid my bills. I’m pretty sure the manager there was flirting with me. He was cute too. I went and put gas in the car next.

I went by Your Favorite Tattoo next because I wanted to ask a question about pricing on a piece of flash I saw when I was in there getting pierced last month. Found out it was affordable, and then this happened.

He’s on the front of my upper thigh and about the size of a deck of cards.

I was tattooed by Charlie G., who also happens to be an apprentice but he’s got a great light hand and his lines and shading are top notch.

I contacted him about adding some other characters to it over the next six months so I’m hoping he says yes. 🙂

After leaving Your Favorite Tattoo, I did some grocery shopping and went home.
