I had errands to run today and thought I would check out some of the special Friday the 13th flash some of the tattoo shops were doing. I went by 3 shops and the first two were not impressive.
I went to Pokerz first, and the second I walked in the door, they thrust paperwork at me without even asking what I was coming in for.
I looked at the flash, see a cute design. Says $40. I ask if they can make it bigger, and if that included color or shading. They told me they are only doing tracing jobs today, no changes will be made, and it’s for a plain black outline only. Sorry dudes. A cheap tattoo is rarely a good tattoo, and I want something I’ll actually like. They weren’t willing to do additional work at the regular rate, and they didn’t suggest making an appointment to come back.
Next I went over to Black Orchid. Tracy raved about them a couple years ago. I didn’t like any of the flash they had up and they completely ignored me. I was there long enough to flip through all the photo books, look at the flash, wall decor, the whole shebang, and no one could even make eye contact. I left.
After that I went over to Electric Soul and things were off to a better start. I was greeted immediately, and they had flash I actually liked. One of the designs was a simple, traditional styled Death’s Head Moth. They let me know I could feel free to look around and if I had any questions, they would be happy to answer them.
I had questions. and then this happened.
Danny did him, and every five minutes one of the guys was asking how I was feeling because apparently this should have been super painful. It stung, but it really wasn’t bad at all. And now I have ideas to build off of this at some future date.
I still have an appointment for the 27th with Bob to do a praying mantis on my other shin, and I think I’m going to ask him to touch up my thigh piece as well. I like Charles’s work but I had such a bad reaction to the ink he uses not once but twice, that I hesitate to go back to him for touchups.
I wish this was a regular thing! Haha but no…. Just a I got lucky enough to save up some $$$ to get some work done.
Several months back, I had this guy, from wall flash, tattooed on my thigh.
And after sending over my ideas and some inspiration images to my artist, which included photos of an enamel pin, a watercolor painting, and a piece of polymer clay sculpture, he came up with this.
There will be some other small details added around it before it’s done.
Anyway, I was having pre-tattoo anxiety last night so I was up late, and then woke up super early with pre-tattoo excitement this morning. I pottered around the house, watched some Nurse Jackie, gave Moppie her meds, and ate a good breakfast. Then I hopped in the car to head into town.
Crown and Dagger Tattoo and my bank are on the same block, so I found street parking, walked to the ATM, got cash, and sat on a bench to wait for the shop to open. I was wearing shorts for easy access to my thigh. The bench was metal, and very cold. I did not stay sitting long.
Finally I went in and Charlie got to work getting my stencil ready, and then he applied it. He busted out a sharpie to make a few minor edits directly on my thigh. Then we got started.
About 2 hours after I had arrived, I had this.
I’ll be going back in the next couple months for one final session, but I love how he got was I was imagining just right!
I had a really busy day Tuesday. The pups woke me up at 6am,so I got a whole 4 hours of sleep. Not a great start, but I saw my check came in, so I paid mom rent, and headed into town at 830 to get to the bank when it opened. I withdrew most of the remaining money, deposited about 2/3rds into my other account, and picked up my prescriptions. Amazingly they were actually ready so there was no wait.
From there I dropped off a couple bags of donations at Goodwill.
I paid all my bills, except the phone bills which I had cash for, and drove over to Verizon to find out they don’t open until 11am. Decided to drive over to the hospital and see about donating blood because that usually takes a while. I filled out the paperwork and the lady stuck me, and ten minutes later I was drinking my juice.
I grabbed a chicken sandwich at McDonald’s after that and drank lots of water. Then I went over to Verizon and paid my bills. I’m pretty sure the manager there was flirting with me. He was cute too. I went and put gas in the car next.
I went by Your Favorite Tattoo next because I wanted to ask a question about pricing on a piece of flash I saw when I was in there getting pierced last month. Found out it was affordable, and then this happened.
He’s on the front of my upper thigh and about the size of a deck of cards.
I was tattooed by Charlie G., who also happens to be an apprentice but he’s got a great light hand and his lines and shading are top notch.
I contacted him about adding some other characters to it over the next six months so I’m hoping he says yes. 🙂
After leaving Your Favorite Tattoo, I did some grocery shopping and went home.
I made a nice sale in my shop, so I was able to put some towards the big things, and I bought a few things I needed as well.
Unfortunately, one item will have to be returned because it won’t work out for me.That was a toilet paper roll storage holder that clips onto the side of your toilet tank. Too bad the ceramic of my tank is too thick, and its shaped all wrong to actually use. If my toilet tank was more square, it would be worth bending the hooks and making it work.It works hanging off of one of the wire racks over my toilet though, so it’s a keeper.
I also realized that spice racks as nail polish shelves are genius! Obviously I need more nail polish, right?
I also ordered a container to store the puppy food in because the stupid mice are eating their way through the bag, helping themselves to as much as they’d like. Right now the puppy food is in one of my plastic file boxes I pulled out of the craft room because the mice wasted no time chewing into the new bag. I hate mice.
I also went back to the piercer to discuss this piercing with her. She doesn’t have the right jewelry in stock to do it so hopefully the right piece will come in next week and we can go ahead. I ended up leaving with an industrial piercing on my left ear, and a helix on my right. Of course I obviously didn’t think it all through because I sleep on my left side mostly, and now I can’t because its so sore, and even more not thought out was getting cartilage piercings on both ears at the same time.
The night before I went to the piercer though, I popped by Psycho City Tattoo and got my WORTHY tattoo done, as well as the star in my chest piece recolored. Bob Ackermann did a great job on both and I couldn’t be happier. 🙂
This will be going on top of my left foot sometime in the next few weeks in 1/2″ lettering. Please feel free to use it for yourself- I don’t mind sharing my art when its such an important little thing.
We are all worthy of love, friendship, self-care, well-being, and good things in general.
