These are all topics I’ve talked about on this blog. Some I’ve talked about several times, others considerably less.
For me this space is just somewhere I can ramble on about whatever thing is on my mind at the time. Sometimes that’s the crazy dream I just had. Sometimes it’s about school. Sometimes it’s about friends or family or occasionally politics.
Tonight I’m sitting here, making small changes to my sites, watching Tales From the Crypt, and hoping my mom’s new computer gets here soon.
For the last couple weeks, her computer had been making a lot of noise. At the time I thought it was the fan, but yesterday during an update, it froze up, and upon rebooting, couldn’t find the hard drive. I opened the case today, and Jesus Bob is was unbelievably filthy inside.
I checked the fan, which seemed fine, and then hooked the hard drive up to some jumpers and plugged it in to my laptop. It couldn’t even be seen, which makes me wonder now if all the noise was actually the drive failing, instead of the fan.
We ordered a new desktop which should be here in Monday, and believe me we will be blowing it out regularly!
I’m out of school for a couple weeks and it’s so weird. What do I do with this extra time? I cleaned up my mom’s bathroom a bit today, and later I will be cleaning up the desk for the new computer.
I’m thinking about doing some cross stitch later this evening, and maybe some knitting. I downloaded copies of all the knitting and crochet patterns I’ve bought or been gifted on Ravelry and organized then. I cleaned my computer if temporary files that take up precious space. I updated things.
I feel like this is what newly retired people feel like.
I’m cleaning again. I keep finding ancient food that’s literally covered in millimeters of dust that goes straight to the garbage. I threw away about ten tiny, never opened jars of jellies, fancy mustards, and other spreads that expired in 1996. I threw away a bunch of the reusable shopping bags because we literally have so freaking many and nowhere to put them.
I found more things to donate, and a few things to return. The back seat of my car is slowly filling up with things to be dropped off at Goodwill. I’ve added some clothing to the pile, stuff that didn’t get worn much because it didn’t fit quite right and I should have returned them.
I’ve done multiple loads of laundry including my sheets and pillowcases, so my bed is fresh and clean. I put away everything that I washed, and in my cleaning, I found a few articles of clothing I thought were missing.
Tomorrow I’ll continue cleaning up, and Wednesday my check should be in so I can go grocery shopping, pay bills, and finally take the vacuum in to be repaired. I’m looking forward to vacuuming again.
I’ve been chipping away at the mess in the hallway I previously posted about, and I’ve finally got that section of the house done.
I also got rid of (trash and donation) a huge amount of stuff from these two bookcases.
The plan right now is to move everything I don’t get rid of onto the dark wood bookcase, and ask my mom if I can have the lighter one in my craft room. That will give me better storage options, and it’ll be out of her line of sight from where she’ll want to pile stuff on it.
And then there’s this mess. The other end of the hallway. I actually pulled out a trash bag full of garbage from underneath before I took the photo.
When I get this mess cleaned up, I want to get some plastic bins to go underneath to keep the recycling in. Right now, those plastic bags are the recycling.
Yesterday I took a rather ill-advised 4 hour nap in the afternoon. Not a terrible thing in itself, but it meant at midnight I was wide awake and I wanted to do things. I ended up clearing off one of my 6 foot folding tables in my craft room, and bringing in my old desk to take its place. Then I moved the 3 x 3 shelving unit out of the closet alongside it, and moved my file boxes, one of my stacks of drawers, ironing board, and one of my dress forms into the closet.
It looks a lot nicer and I have more floor space.
I went to sleep after that.
At 845am, the pups woke me up. I let them out, had breakfast, and started putting things away in my craft room. The closet bothered me.
I took everything down off the top shelf, threw away empty packaging, and placed all the Christmas stuff together neatly. There were bags of fabrics, which I divided up between “large enough to use” and “too small to be of use.” the second pile went right into the trash. The first pile I offered a few select pieces to Tracy, and then put the rest away in my fabric drawers.
The Christmas tree has been in its falling apart box blocking the end of the hallway since January. I trapped up the box, and managed to fit it into the closet shelf in my craft room.
Then I moved the small table from in front of the hall closet and looked inside. Not much in there. The VHS tape storage full of old home movies went into the bottom of the closet. I removed a few things that were mine that I didn’t want and threw them away.
Then there’s this.
Our actual hallway turned dump site. Ugh. I moved the gate and pulled out the bag closest to the front. More fabrics. I went through the same routine as with the other bag and ended up with a small pile of keeps and a lot to be donated or thrown away. Pulled out a few more bags. Mostly trash. Some more stuff to be donated. More trash.
I had to stop there because the trash cans are almost full but I got quite a bit done. After the trash pickup on Wednesday (and after I empty my car of donations) I’ll go through the rest.
I also took a hammer to the broken bookshelf that was out front and broke it down so I could throw it away, and then put the broken heater into my trunk to be dropped off at the e-waste place.
Wednesday will be a busy day with drop-offs, group therapy, and I have returns to make at Michael’s, and then I can start over again.
- 3 monitors
- 1 scanner
- 2 printers
- 1 computer
- 1 microwave
- assorted computer peripherals
- 1 digital picture frame
All dropped off to the e-waste recycling center
Friday night I cleared off the bookshelf next to the computer and put it outside.
- 2 kitchen trash bags filled with trash
- 19 plastic water bottles picked up from the floors
- 100 VHS and Betamax tapes sorted into 3 piles-
1. Home movies for mom to decide what to do with
2. Store-bought movies to donate
3. Recorded off TV movies to throw away
- 1 of the storage units is damaged and will go in the trash
- 2 of the storage units will be donated along with the movies
- 4 shopping totes full of books and magazines in good shape to be donated
- 1 shopping bag of clothing to be donated
Things to consider-
- Donating the box of yarn in my car?
- Donating the ukulele stands in my car?
- Selling my mountain dulcimer… I never play it and I’m just not in love with her.
