It’s Almost Over

Friday the 15th I got in the car with one of my best friends and we drove up to Washington state.  I’ve been hanging out with them in Kent since, with a few small trips around the area.

We haven’t done a lot but we have had fun and its been wonderful to just spend time with Nikki, get to know her husband, and spoil her little dogs rotten. Buddy and Doofers are adorable!

The first few days I drank what is a lot of beer for me, and I’ve consistently drank too much coffee.  We went to a bar where I asked for a stout and the server offered me chardonnay. Fail on her part.

We went and played speed bingo, which I won a few rounds, and we played the slots a bit (I won $59 after Nikki spotted me cash to play – I paid her back what she gave me).

I did some online shopping while I was here, ordering new shelves for my craft room and new yarn that was sale for great prices. The shelves arrived at home today and I expect the yarn to be there early next week.

We visited Snoqualmie Falls, which was beautiful, and we ate out a lot. Last night we went to a sushi place where I ate a lot of foods I couldn’t identify but tasted fantastic.

Yesterday we drove into Seattle and visited the Pike Place Market which was cool. I chatted with a few vendors and got to get a few leads on getting help with my ukulele playing from a guy calling himself the Howling Hobbit.

We had the best damn clam chowder I’ve ever had and we visited So Much Yarn, which was incredible. It’s a small shop but it’s beautifully arranged and the lady who runs it was fantastic. I only spent $50 there but I left with 7 skeins of beautiful yarn in two types, 3 of one and 4 of the other. The one I got 4 of was on sale for half off so that helped. I nearly bought some $28 a skein silk and merino yarn that felt amazing.

Tonight we visited one more local yarn shop that was highly recommended to me via the Ravelry forums and while I didn’t like this shop quite as much as So Much Yarn, I found the Maker’s Mercantile to be really nice and bought 4 balls of baby alpaca plus a book on crocheting monsters.

image

This beautiful needle felted chair and footstool were in the shop.

Nikki and I also started watching Nurse Jackie and we are trying to finish the show before I fly home tomorrow morning.  We have about one season left that we’re trying to get through tonight.

image

I crocheted an entire blanket while I was here too. It’s not a big blanket but it’s a nice sized throw for cuddling under while watching TV.

I fly out of Seattle tomorrow morning at 720 and while I’m happy to be heading home soon, I’m still having major anxiety about the flight. I’ve never flown before and honestly planes terrify me. I also keep freaking out that they will lose my bags or something.

This has been a great trip though and I’m super glad I did it.

Tomorrow… See Ya!

Tomorrow morning I leave bright and early (okay, dark and early) with Nikki to make the long drive up to Washington state where I will be staying for almost two weeks. We don’t have much planned but mostly I’m looking forward to spending some extended time with one of my best friends. I do have a trip to a yarn shop planned, and I’d like to do a few touristy things, but I’m not too picky what. Then on the 27th, I will fly back home and Mattie will pick me up at the Burbank airport.

I’m more than a little nervous. I’ve never flown before and I’m really, really freaked out by planes. People have compared parts of flying to riding in elevators- I want to clarify that elevators make me want to throw up. It feels like the bottom is suddenly ripped away and its nauseating. My flight will take about 4 hours, including a layover that’s just over an hour, and then I will hopefully be on solid land again and looking for my Mattie to come and fetch me.

2015-12-25 13.25.58The freezer is stocked with lots of meat, and there is frozen and canned veggies, and the dogs have plenty of food. We have lots of eggs, and some yogurt. I think Mattie should be all set for the time I’m gone and if he wants to eat other things, that’s fine too because he will be saving me money.

Anyway, I’m super excited to be going and I’m looking forward to the trip. I’m leaving here tomorrow morning with a project bag full of yarn and I suspect when I come home it will have turned into an entire blanket. And I’m taking my tablet so I can get lots of reading done. Nikki will have to work so I need to amuse myself a bit while she’s gone, but I can do that.

We’ve also decided that Mr. Bubblegum Monster Penis would like to travel with us! Maybe we can get some photos of him seeing the sights. 🙂

Happy New Year (& Merry Christmas Too!)

I haven’t posted since around Thanksgiving. The holidays went by in a bit of a blur, but they were overall pretty good. Thanksgiving me did twice (once here with Mattie’s dad and brother, and once with my mom and her boyfriend) and then Mattie’s mom came into town around the same time. There was much gift exchanging over Christmas, and I can finally share my mom’s gift I made for her.

This is the blanket I spent about 4 months working on for her and finally finished just a few weeks before Christmas. Its on her King sized bed, and that’s Mildred the cat claiming it as her own. Millie was supposed to be my cat but I left her with my mom when I moved in with Mattie because Lucy is not cat-safe.

These are the details of what went into that blanket. A shitload of yarn. Almost 6,500 yards of it. Thankfully a lot of that yarn (about 5 or 6 of the 17.7 skeins) were given to me so it kept the price down.

2015-12-25 05.45.37

My mom got me a ton of yarn- yay! She has been listening when I mentioned some of my favorite yarns and the ones I use a lot of. Sashi approves!

2015-12-24 22.30.00

I crocheted what seems like a ton of scarves, 3 of which I sold (or rather I hope I sold- still waiting for payment on two of them) and I did some fun other projects. This is my bubblegum monster penis, and its about 19″ from tip to bottom of the low hanging ball. Its monstrous and I’d run away if anyone came at me with one that big! LOL

2015-12-25 13.25.58

I also pulled out an older project and added a border to it so it looks more finished. This really made a big difference and it looks so much better! I’m torn between gifting this one or adding it to my shop.

2015-12-26 22.50.32

The pattern design for the Mickey heads and surrounding stitches belong to my friend Kate. She’s fantastic at crocheting up all sorts of things, and used to run a small business making stuffed animals from crochet.

I’m also working on a knitting project that has a ton of firsts for me. I’ve run into one hitch on it but with some help from folks on the Ravelry boards I sorted it out, and hopefully in a few days I’ll be finished with it and can share it.

New Year’s Eve was spent grocery shopping, baking cookies (which I burned half of them), and toasting champagne as the new year came in. I’m finishing my third glass of champagne now and then I’m off to bed.

I hope you all had a great set of holidays and I wish you happiness in the coming year!

Life Goals (Well, A Goal Anyway)

I’ve been doing some research and have decided that some time next year I would like to visit one of my closest friends who lives in Washington. Of course that costs money and I won’t be able to save enough to get there on my own until July. To help raise the money to visit my pretty lady, I’m offering 18% off of everything in my shop, including sale items. Everything. Just click on through to http://kittyloafdesigns.com and use coupon code CATOWASH at checkout. Easy peasy!

I’m also doing the logical thing and begging for Christmas money instead of gifts to hopefully get the money together faster because I really don’t want to have to wait until July! Below are just a few of my makes you can buy in my shop.

I’m Still Here!

I’ve been a terrible blogger lately, which is a big part of why I switched from self hosted to this. Why pay for a service I barely use? Anyway, I’m chugging along albeit somewhat slowly on my current crochet blanket, but it’s growing and I only (haha) have either 13 or 16 more rounds to go on it, if I decide to end it on a stripe of three rounds of off white or skip the white outer border altogether.

I figure if I can get one round done every other day I have plenty of time to finish before Christmas, assuming I actually work on it. I had a 30% off all regular price  stuff for Joann’s the other day so I bought ten skeins but happily I think I way overbought and can return quite a bit of it.

This is where I am on it as of now.

blanket

I’m pretty sure the additional 20 inches in width it will gain with the next 13 rounds will make it just the right size for its intended.

I haven’t been to the gym in like two weeks and I haven’t practiced my ukulele but once or twice in the last week and I’m slacking terribly on housekeeping.I just feel overwhelmed by everything lately. It just seems like everything is too much.

pipesI want to say last Thursday we had the plumber out to clear out some clogged pipes for us in the kitchen and he noted that we had a leak under the house. Mattie dug it out and found it was pretty nasty so we went to turn the water off at the mainline from the street and the main broke. I called the county and everyone on our street had no water for an hour or so while they fixed it.

We left our water turned off because of the leak, and we ended up going almost 3 days with no water. The plumbers had to use jackhammers to take up some of our cement, and replace about 30 feet of old pipe that was more rust than metal but we’re leak free again and the water’s back on now.

Its kind of horrifying to see what our drinking water has been coming through all this time and even though we filter ours, the dogs are getting it straight out of the tap. Yuck! I’m surprised it was running clear!

Today I’ve got a few errands to run- taking Tom to pick up his Rxs and to the store to get Mattie some more lunches and some housecleaning, and I’d like to get another round done on my blanket if I can. Nothing major but it will keep me busy today.

The weather turned cold fast after Halloween. I’m giggling to myself every night now seeing Mattie (Mr Die Hard Metalhead) curled up asleep under my rainbow blanket. Its adorable!

An Experiment

I saw my psych doctor yesterday and discussed with him my issues with sleeping at night, staying asleep sometimes, and that I experienced a 6 week long hypo-manic episode which is completely unusual for me. My bipolar, when unmedicated, was very rapid cycling, so even this weird mixed episode lasting 6 weeks is very odd and out of the ordinary. He suggested for my issues getting to sleep I try Klonopin and see if it helps. I don’t expect to take it every night but on nights when I’d otherwise be up until 4am, hopefully it will help. They are 2mg tablets, and I took one last night. I fell asleep within 30 minutes and slept for 14 hours straight through. I bought a pill splitter today so will try a half of one tonight instead. 14 hours sleep is a bit excessive.

I also returned a few skeins of yarn I overbought for my current blanket project and got a few dollars store credit. Its not a lot but I couldn’t see any need to keep that particular excess in yarn. The blanket, after I did the math on paper, has 24 more rounds before its finished, if I stop at only one round of off white on the outside edge. It will definitely be big enough for the intended person’s bed when its done.

Monday night while we were at pool league, I took some yarn and a hook and in about two hours between games and the following afternoon, I put together this hat.

beret1

It looks better on an actual person then it does on my foam head.

beret2

I used super bulky Lion Brand Hometown USA yarn and the majority of the hat is HDC, but the opening edge/rim is SC. Some of the stitches were done granny square style as well. I’m really happy with it especially since it only took 2 hours to make!

Food today has been pretty good. I did some snacking, but dinner was healthy and I still have room in my day to cut up and split that cantaloupe with Mattie later when he gets home from pool tonight.

scramble

Dinner looks kind of gross but it was so good. I thin sliced 2 zucchinis, about a half a pound of carrots, two bunches od green onions, chopped, 1 cup dry white rice, 2 eggs, and a 12 ounce package of bacon, chopped. I also added garlic powder. It all went into the wok and was periodically stirred until everything was cooked and the loose moisture had been cooked off. It tasted so much better than I expected! Mattie felt the need to add soy sauce but he said he would eat it again, so that’s good.

Not a lot else to share right now. Mattie’s got pool again tonight so will probably just watch some TV in the bedroom and work on the never ending blanket for a while!

Something New, & I Bought All The Things

The weekend was pretty quiet for us, though we did have our friend Tim over on Friday night for a few hours and of course Sashi fell in love with him again. He’s pretty tall, so she’s a bit intimidated while he’s standing, but get him sitting down and this happens.

timtimsashi

Luckily he likes her and plays with her and spoils her rotten or I would forever be apologizing about our incredibly rude dog randomly climbing into his lap. Its not like she’s a little lap dog- she’s 85 pounds of big!

Friday night I also started working on a second triangle scarf, this one in some gorgeous but otherwise awful to work with boucle yarn. I finished it Sunday afternoon and I have to say it turned out beautifully. I’m really, really happy with how it turned out.

scarf

Everything about it is just gorgeous! The colors turned out beautiful, the fringe looks good, its pretty much prefect. I’m torn between trying to sell it and keeping it, but I don’t think I should keep it unless I can wear it often. Ugh! So many tough decisions! 😉 I think it will go as a nice cover-up to keep me a bit warmed for Halloween though when that rolls around and it is mostly greenish so it will kind of go with my costume.

I got my costume on Saturday in the mail and surprise! It didn’t fit. Well, it fit, but I couldn’t pull it on over my boobs. I had to rip out the back seam down past the waistline, insert two small panels of black stretch lace, and add a zipper. The gauntlets it came with are definitely not plus sized as they are supposed to be worn above the elbow and I can’t even wear them right below the elbow without losing circulation to my arms. I’ll have to find a fix for them as well.

This morning I woke up early so I was at the grocery store by 9am to beat the crowds. I feel like I bought out half of the store, and I spent a lot of money for me. I bought good, healthy things like fresh fruit, veggies, eggs, and lean meats but I also bought things like bread, pasta, processed meats, and some frozen convenience foods. I guess it kind of balances out so overall it was an okay shopping trip.

I’m really wanting to go back to the gym but of course there’s no money to do so right now, and I’m not even sure where I would like to go. I’m thinking about hopping gym to gym and trying out free passes to see what I like and what is actually affordable. My last gym is okay in winter time but they refuse to turn on the air in summer and its miserable in there then. It makes it hard to get a good workout if you’re worried about dying from heat stroke.

Ugh. Mistakes Happen But…

I thought it was odd this morning that one of my accounts supposed to be payed off by the debt consolidation loan still wasn’t paid off. It’s been like a week since I signed the papers and money was set to disperse and my other two accounts were paid off. I checked my paperwork and my account numbers and found (surprise!) the bank paid off someone else’s account. That led to me spending two hours at the bank, and ultimately being told that the problem would be investigated and rectified within a week. I’m not entirely happy with that response but I guess its the best I can hope for right now. Hopefully the issue will be sorted before my next payment is due because I can’t swing the loan payment plus paying on the credit card they messed up on at the same time. Until its sorted out and settled though, I feel like I’m going to be pulling my hair out.

I got home from that tedious time at the bank, and then Tracy told me she was at Kinetic Brewing Co with her husband and I decided to drive up the street and join them. I had two beers (they had two Imperial Stouts available as their guest beers) and right after I ordered the second one, Mattie joined us after work. He paid my tab and his and then we walked a bit of the farmer’s market, which resulted in me buying a bit of fresh fruit- plums, peaches, a grapefruit, and a cantaloupe, which were high in price but I like the idea of supporting local business.

fruits

Afterwards we came home and watched a little TV while I cooked dinner (game hens + stuffing + veggies) and then we ate. It was really good and filling. Dessert was the rest of the pumpkin cheesecake ice cream I bought several days ago at Baskin Robbins and I watched Scream Queens, which Mattie declared stupid. I still haven’t gotten to schedule my lesson with the music store, and haven’t gotten to practice my ukulele as much as I’d like to lately.

I’m planning on working on my blanket this evening and hopefully finishing the current round and getting started on the next new color transition. I keep telling myself if I do one round a day I will have it finished in time for Christmas. That doesn’t sound like much but as it gets bigger, even one round will become time consuming if i intend to make it king-sized.

Busy Busy Busy!

Yesterday I took Mattie’s dad to run some errands in the afternoon. It was pretty uneventful though we did have an amusing conversation about handicapped parking. He wasn’t ready to go home yet and I wanted to pop by Michael’s for some black embroidery floss, but since he was tired, he opted to wait in the car. I parked in a semi – shady spot and he pointed out the handicapped parking on the other side. This is basically how our conversation went. I might have had to stifle a giggle.

“are you coming in?”
“no but the handicapped parking is over there.”
“but there’s shade here.”
“but I really wanted to use my placard!”

After we finished with his errands I dropped him off and came home to work on my cross stitch project I’m about half done with and to find my package from Joann’s was finally delivered and I got my opal clay and my yarn to finish my triangle scarf I’m crocheting.

I finished my triangle scarf Wednesday afternoon, after adding lots of fringe to it, and using all but about 30″ of the second skein of yarn. I love when I project uses up basically everything! The colors are much more vibrant in real life; this is just a crappy phone picture.

trianglescraft

I’m really pleased with it.

I did some more on my cross stitch I’m working on, then made plans to take Mattie’s dad to do the things we didn’t get done yesterday and for Mattie to meet us for dinner. I got home around 730pm and did a little Christmas shopping (I know, its so early but I have money now so did a bit of it) and then we watched some TV when he got home.

Now of course its the middle of the night and I can’t sleep so I’m finishing this blog post and going to work on some other crochet until I get tired. Tomorrow I need to water the plants and take out the recycling as well as finish the dishes. Normal stuff, I just don’t want to do any of it! LOL
